Born on 9th June, 1985, Sonam Kapoor is a second generation superstar in the Indian film industry. Born in Mumbai, Sonam was exposed to the world of showbiz right from her early age.
Sonam studied arts and theatrics from the United World College of South East Asia in Singapore and is also an alumni of the University of Mumbai. Her inclination towards the technicalities of film making was clear from the start and she started her association with Bollywood when she worked as an assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his movie, Black.
Her movie career started in 2007 with Saawariya opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Her performance in the movie earned her a nomination for the best female debutant in the Filmfare Awards. Three years later, she experienced her first commercial success for the film I Hate Luv Storys.
The turning point in her career came after Raanjhana (2013), after which she was permanently etched as a prominent actor in the industry. The movie garnered a lot of praise for both Dhanush and Sonam and went on to become a huge commercial success. Her other movies include Dolly ki Doli, Khoobsurat, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo among others and her best performance till date is said to be for “Neerja”, where she played the heroic Neerja Bhanot who saved the lives of multiple passengers in the infamous Karachi highjack of the Pan Am Flight 73.
Apart from movies, she actively supports a lot of campaigns against cruelty towards animals, LGBTQ to name a few. She is quite active in the brand endorsement scenario and is the brand ambassador for a lot of products.
